The RNA Society is seeking to fill upcoming openings for two volunteer positions.

Society Secretary: The RNA Society Secretary is closely engaged in all Society activities and is an organized and detail-oriented individual, an effective communicator, and able to multi-task and complete responsibilities on time. 

Secretary Roles and Responsibilities  

  1. Attend, take notes and generate official minutes for the annual RNA Society Business Meeting, Meetings Committee meeting, and any ad hoc meetings that occur at each Annual Meeting of the Society or electronically throughout the year. 
  2. Serve on the RNA Society Awards Committee to coordinate activities and ensure timely selection and dissemination of the award winners.
  3. Serve on the Nominating Committee to coordinate activities for the annual RNA Society election. Assist in setting-up and electronically distributing the election ballot, recording, and disseminating election results.
  4. Assist in setting-up and electronically distributing the post-meeting survey for the RNA Society Annual Meeting. Collect, collate and distribute survey results to CEO.
  5. Serve in an administrative capacity for the RNA Society throughout the year as called upon by the CEO and/or the President, or when the need arises (*with the assistance and support of the society’s Association Management Company).
  6. Monitor and update content on the RNA Society website (*with the technical assistance of the webmaster).
  7. Record and archive the history of the RNA Society.
    1. Record decisions of the Board and archive transcripts of those deliberations.
    2. Maintain RNA Society database of individuals serving key roles in the organization.
    3. Ensure Society procedures and “unwritten rules” are recorded and archived.

 

RNA Society Membership Committee - Chair

The Membership Committee is an additional committee of the RNA Society established in 2010 and tasked with managing the membership aspects of the Society and ensuring continued international growth and enhanced member engagement & satisfaction.

The duties and responsibilities of the Chair of the Membership Committee are specified by the CEO with the approval of the Board of Directors. The Chair shall act at all times with a fiduciary duty to the RNA Society. The Chair reports to the CEO who reports to the Board of Directors of the RNA Society. The Chair has authority to add committee members as needed.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to,

  1. Manage membership-related correspondence and activities administered by the organization’s association management company (currently MCI USA). This includes monitoring all membership-related activities to ensure talks are completed on deadline and providing feedback for improvement of services, when needed.
  2. Track and review RNA Society membership to ensure continued growth. Archive monthly membership reports and perform analytic analysis quarterly to send to CEO. Reviews membership databases for accuracy (and update as needed).
  3. Coordinate membership renewal effort; update all correspondence (e-mail, website, and print) with correct and updated membership renewal information. Manage renewal timeline and efforts in conjunction with MCI USA.
  4. Develop mechanisms/programs to increase membership and/or member satisfaction in the Society as needed, possibly through development of new member services or enhancement of existing services. Performs an annual analysis of membership benefits, accepted practices, and fee structures across similar academic societies or organizations.
  5. Manages member-associated postings to RNA Society website (i.e. up-coming conferences, job postings, etc.), approving posts as needed. Helps monitor website for expired content and instructs webmaster of updates.
  6. Travel twice yearly to attend annual business meeting with association management company and RNA Society Annual Meeting. Participate in both the meeting of the Board of Directors and Meetings Committee held during the annual conference.
  7. Provide written summary annually of activities of the Membership Committee to CEO for inclusion in annual report to RNA Society Board of Directors.
  8. Manage the RNA-related Small Conference Sponsorship program.
    1. Serve as the contact for Society members requesting sponsorship for smaller RNA-related meetings; distribute guidelines for eligibility and use of RNA Society funds.
    2. Prepare and execute sponsorship contract and communicate obligations of the agreement.
    3. Arrange for disbursement of funds through CFO and/or accountant representative at MCI USA.
    4. Collect event advertisement for posting on the RNA Society website; forward to webmaster for uploading.
    5. Collect post-meeting reports from meeting organizers and distribute to the editor for inclusion in the RNA Society newsletter.
    6. Review and update program guidelines periodically or as necessary, in conjunction with CEO.
  9. Provide support for administering the RNA Salon program.
    1. Provide support and guidance for the administration of this existing program.
    2. Assist in writing, editing and distributing applications and guideline materials for the program.
    3. Recruit individuals to the Membership Committee to administer and maintain this program as necessary.
    4. Assist in the collection of data and assembly of the end-of-year report on the program for presentation to the Board of Directors.
  10. Oversee and provide necessary support for the Member Spotlight series.
    1. Provide guidance and support for the administration of this existing program.
    2. Recruit individuals to the Membership Committee to administer and maintain this program as necessary.
    3. Assist in the collection of data and assembly of the end-of-year report on the program for presentation to the Board of Directors.
  11. Oversee and provide necessary support for the Mentor/Mentee Program.
    1. Provide guidance and support for the administration of this existing program.
    2. Recruit individuals to the Membership Committee to administer and maintain this program as necessary.
    3. Assist in the collection of data and assembly of the end-of-year report on the program for presentation to the Board of Directors.
