Postdoctoral Positions: RNA Processing, Modifications, and Host Defense

Posted on: November 4, 2026

Postdoctoral positions are available in the Karijolich laboratory at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. The laboratory is within the Departments of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology (PMI), and Biochemistry.

The Karijolich laboratory investigates the molecular mechanisms through which RNA processing, modification, structure, and decay regulate viral infection and host defense. Current research in the laboratory addresses several fundamental questions, including:

  • How does RNA metabolism generate immunostimulatory RNAs?
  • How do innate immune receptors distinguish among diverse RNA populations?
  • What RNA regulatory pathways do viruses exploit to promote their replication and persistence?
  • How do cellular and viral noncoding RNAs regulate gene expression and host defense?

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline. Candidates with backgrounds in RNA biology, molecular biology, virology, or innate immunity are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will have opportunities to develop independent research directions, employ cutting-edge molecular and genomic approaches, and work in a collaborative research environment.

Vanderbilt University is located in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee. Internationally known as “Music City”, Nashville is a thriving city located on the Cumberland River with great restaurants, museums, art, and of course Music.

Interested candidates are encouraged to contact us with a CV, and a brief description of their research interests.
