The Therapeutic Innovation Center is seeking talented biochemists or biophysicists to work in an interdisciplinary team environment on early therapeutic and drug discovery projects. As the center’s key focus is on diseases of RNA regulation, with an emphasis in cancer, this position will involve the design of highly informative biochemical and/or biophysical assays potentially including protein purification and characterization, enzyme activity assays, FRET-based binding assays, thermal shift assays, surface plasmon resonance assays, structural NMR, isothermal titration calorimetry assays and others. This position will also include developing these assays in high throughput formats. The Staff Scientist will also be expected to work closely with the cellular biology and existing biochemistry team and communicate progress and needs.

Job Duties

  • Plans, directs and conducts research experiments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • Develops research techniques and performs applications required for specific research projects.
  • May conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
  • May train, supervise, schedule and coordinate the activities of less experienced research staff.
  • Interact directly with center leadership to design overall approaches for the experimental and computational teams.
  • Work with leadership to design and implement a biochemistry/biophysics platform for drug discovery.
  • Develop an organizational system for the biochemistry, biophysics and chemistry teams.
  • Build a team of biochemists that will work closely with the team.
  • Visualize and clearly communicate (oral and written) analysis results.
  • Maintain a collaborative, collegial and respectful team environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry experience is preferred
  • Expertise in biochemical/biophysical assay development
  • Demonstrated expertise in leading biochemical/biophysical projects including first authored manuscripts or significant industry experience
  • Competency in multiple key biochemical/biophysical areas including protein purification, thermal shift assays, enzyme activity assays, FRET-based binding assays, surface plasmon resonance assays, Isothermal titration calorimetry assays, and X-ray crystallography
