Sr. Research Associate/Associate Scientist – RNA Engineering

Orna is a Cambridge-based biotechnology startup on a mission to create therapies for diseases inaccessible to existing approaches. Built on novel circular RNA technology developed at MIT, Orna is leading the next wave of RNA therapeutics with our best-in-class expression and delivery platform. We are seeking an exceptional researcher to join our team as a Sr. Research Associate/Associate Scientist to work with a cross-functional team to generate and evaluate circular RNAs. The ideal candidate is a team-oriented scientist with expertise in mammalian cell culture and in analyzing nucleic acid sequences. The ideal candidate has a B.S. in a biology-related field with relevant postgrad experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry. They will be able to quickly learn and integrate new protocols into existing workflows, possess strong oral and written communication capabilities, demonstrate excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, and be adept at problem solving in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Accelerate Orna’s therapeutic pipeline by actively participating in different stages of circular RNA engineering for Orna’s programs including generating oRNAs for in vitro studies
  • Conduct arrayed screens to evaluate circular RNAs containing genes of interest in various cell culture systems, including primary cell culture
  • Work with a cross-functional drug discovery and development team, track cross-team responsibilities, manage timelines, and leverage internal resources to push projects forward
  • Generate, interpret, and present data to cross-functional R&D teams
  • Maintain an up-to-date and accurate electronic notebook record of performed studies

Qualifications

  • B.S. in biology, biochemistry or a related discipline with 2+ years of relevant post-graduate industry research experience
  • Proficient with mammalian primary cell culture. Experience with nucleic acid delivery methods such as transfection, electroporation and previous experience working on gene editing/therapy applications is highly desired
  • Hands on experience with basic molecular biology techniques to analyze nucleic acids (eg. nucleic acid isolation, qPCR, PAGE, capillary electrophoresis methods etc), western blotting, and working knowledge of nucleic acid design and sequence analysis (eg. primer design, Sanger sequence visualization, web-based alignment tools etc)
  • Strong collaborative instinct with good time and resource management skills. Able to collaborate on and execute multiple parallel studies
  • Ability to independently analyze, graph, and interpret data with effective written and oral communication skills
