Transine Therapeutics is seeking to recruit a senior RNA biologist to join our expanding laboratory team at the Babraham Research Campus in Cambridge, one of the UK’s leading biotech hubs. Transine is developing a novel class of therapeutic RNAs known as SINEUPs® that have the property to upregulate protein expression by binding candidate mRNA with unprecedented control and specificity. The SINEUP® proprietary technology can target any mRNA within cells through a unique mechanism of action for currently hard-to-treat disease with broad application in the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors. Our interdisciplinary team of scientists works at the forefront of RNA therapeutics to reach disease targets by leveraging the inherent medical potential embedded within non-coding RNA.

The role presents an excellent opportunity for a technically-skilled, motivated and dynamic laboratory scientist with excellent communication skills to contribute to our rapidly growing RNA therapeutics platform, partake in expression screens, and advance mechanistic understanding of Transine’s SINEUP technology using cutting edge techniques.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Leverage a deep understanding of our exclusive technology by developing in vitro assays (mRNA transcription/mRNA translation) or using molecular biology techniques for interrogating RNA structure-function relationships, RNA-protein interactions, RNP function (e.g. RNA-seq, RIP-seq, SHAPE-seq or other chemical probing methods, Riboseq, scRNA-seq. etc)
  • Analyse the functional consequences of post-transcriptional modifications on SINEUP activity using cell-based systems and next-generation RNA-seq technologies
  • Apply expertise in oligonucleotide-based therapeutics to implement strategies to deliver SINEUPs to target cells
  • Maintain a high level of productivity in the lab by interacting effectively with crossfunctional team members across multiple fields, including RNA biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and bioinformatics
  • Execute high-quality work, demonstrating excellent attention to detail, and proactively take ownership of his work in relation to company research goals
  • Work to clear and tight timelines and disseminate data and updates via excellent written and verbal communication in internal meetings, working in a highly collaborative environment with colleagues both within and external to the Transine team.

Essential Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Degree in the biological sciences (PhD)
  • 5 years+ significant hands-on laboratory experience with an evidenced track record of delivering high-quality data to tight timelines
  • A strong background in RNA biology (RNA:RNA and RNA/Protein interactions, post-transcriptional RNA modification, RNA metabolism, RNA structural modelling, RNA delivery), molecular biology, and biochemistry is essential
  • Proficiency in in vitro transcription/translation systems and in vivo cell-based reporter assays
  • Experience in RNA-protein interaction, genome-wide RNA technologies, or transcriptomics approaches will be given strong consideration
  • A strong publication record and demonstrated ability to perform impactful research in the field of RNA biology as part of a multidisciplinary, broadly collaborative team are required
  • Ability to work independently in the laboratory, following detailed instructions where necessary, but providing own intellectual input, independence, and advice as appropriate
  • An understanding of experimental design, statistical analysis, and data interpretation
  • Ability to assist in developing and establishing laboratory activities and SOPs
  • Adherence to Company codes of Practice and laboratory Health and Safety rules and regulations.
