We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join our Lead Discovery group and spearhead our mass spectrometry (MS)-based applications. This person will be part of a team that is responsible for discovering and characterizing RNA-small molecule interactors and will have a key role in identifying and progressing RNA-targeted therapeutics. The position provides opportunities to collaborate extensively with other members of the Lead Discovery, Chemistry, and RNA Biology teams and to contribute to both the science and strategy of treating disease by targeting RNA. An ideal candidate will have prior experience as a member of a team involved in drug discovery and working with validated processes and procedures. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Establish, maintain, and troubleshoot MS-based platforms.
  • Develop and implement MS assays to support drug discovery screening and compound profiling activities.
  • Provide leadership to expand a MS-based strategy for identification and characterization of RNA/small molecule binders.
  • Perform complex data analysis and interpretation to generate conclusions and next steps that drive the science forward.
  • Implement high-throughput sample processing methods to facilitate timely data generation.
  • Support multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Train others on the theoretical and practical aspects of MS-based techniques and to perform MS assays.

Requirements

  • BS in Chemistry (or related field) with 18+ years experience, MS in Chemistry (or related field) with 15+ years experience, or PhD in Chemistry (or related field) with 6+ years experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (LC-MS, ESI-MS) and its application to early, target-based drug discovery is required.
  • Experience with chromatographic separation techniques, especially SEC, and Agilent MassHunter software are preferred.
  • Strong initiative, problem solving skills, desire to learn, attention to detail, and ability to effectively organize and prioritize are required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse and dynamic team is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, proactive communication skills, and strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills are required.
  • A can-do attitude complemented with a willingness to help where needed is required.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools is required.
  • Experience working in drug discovery, especially in an industry setting, is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a startup/entrepreneurial environment is preferred.
