Scientist I/II – Molecular Genomics

Posted on January 7,

Skyhawk Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated Scientist I/II in Molecular Genomics to join our talented, growing Molecular Biology team in Waltham, MA. The successful candidate will develop and build innovative next generation high-throughput drug discovery platform to revolutionize RNA-targeting small molecule screen and support mechanism of action studies of Skyhawk’s RNA-targeting small molecules. As a member of an interdisciplinary platform team, the candidate will contribute to the development of Skyhawk platform technologies at the interface of Chemistry, RNA biology and Genomics.

Skyhawk is committed to discovering, developing and commercializing small molecule therapeutics that correct RNA splicing. We use our novel SkySTARTM platform (Skyhawk Small molecule Therapeutics for Alternative splicing of RNA) to develop drug candidates directed to targets for some of the world’s most intractable diseases including cancer, neurological conditions, and other “undruggable” targets against a wide range of conditions.

Role and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):

  • Design and build custom NGS-based high-throughput screen for hit discovery and hit-to-lead optimization.
  • Develop and perform new transcriptomic or targeted profiling techniques for targets discovery.
  • Design and implement mutagenesis profiling or massively parallel reporter assays to elucidate mechanisms of action of RNA-targeting small molecules.
  • Collaborate with computational scientists on data analysis to interpret results and design studies.
  • Maintain detailed records of experimental protocols and results in laboratory notebooks.
  • Clear presentation and efficient communication with cross-functional teams.
  • Manage internal and external resources to prioritize activities while balancing multiple priorities.

Education/Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Genomics or a related field and 0-4 years of postdoctoral research experience with a proven track record of scientific publications.
  • Knowledge of RNA biology and cutting-edge genomic sequencing technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with genomic/transcriptomic profiling techniques and developing custom NGS methods is highly desirable.
  • Experience with core molecular biology techniques including constructs design, RNA purification, RT-PCR, qPCR, beads-based purification, NGS library construction.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and genetic perturbations (transient/stable expression, siRNA, CRISPR).
  • Experience with liquid handling automation, compound management and LIMS is a plus but not required.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with proven experience to work independently as well as in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexible and efficient with a problem-solving attitude in a fast-paced small company environment.
