Orna Therapeutics, Inc. is a Cambridge-based biotechnology startup on a mission to create therapies for diseases inaccessible to existing approaches. Built on novel circular RNA technology developed at MIT, Orna is leading the next wave of RNA therapeutics with our best-in-class expression and delivery platform. We are seeking an exceptional Scientist to evaluate candidate cancer immunotherapies. The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. degree in an immunology related field, with relevant in vivo laboratory experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry. The ideal candidate is an immunologist with demonstrated experience in developing/executing gain-of-function techniques (transgenes, gene therapy, gene editing) to engineer immune cells to create/evaluate therapeutic candidates. They will be able to quickly learn and develop workflows, possess strong oral and written communication capabilities, demonstrate excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, lead a team from the bench, and be adept at problem solving in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Expand Orna’s therapeutic pipeline by:
    • Evaluating oRNA constructs to express proteins of interest
    • Evaluating oRNA constructs/formulations in relevant human and animal cells
    • Evaluating oRNA constructs/formulations in in-house humanized animal models
    • Work with internal teams to develop novel in-house animal disease models to evaluate oRNA constructs
  • Lead a team of RAs/Associate Scientists from the bench to develop oRNA therapeutics.
  • Develop functional and phenotypic in vitro and in vivo immune assays.
  • Independently design, plan, and execute scientific experiments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Generate, interpret, and analyze data with a sense of urgency.
  • Effectively communicate experimental plans and data; present to cross-functional R&D teams.
  • Maintain a highly detailed and complete electronic notebook record of performed studies.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems in a logical, rational and timely manner.
  • Work in a highly collaborative, cross-functional setting to meet corporate objectives and timelines
  • Contribute to a positive work environment with an entrepreneurial and creative culture.

Qualifications

  • Passionate, adaptable scientist looking to make an impact in a biotech startup environment.
  • PhD in biology, immunology, or related discipline with 0-2 years of relevant experience with oncology models in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of immunotherapy and CAR T cell engineering, including hands on development of relevant in vitro assays and
  • Understanding and experience with in vivo preclinical models to assess T cell responses, cytotoxicity, proliferation, and cytokine production in cancer models a plus
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Experience managing projects independently
  • Demonstrated expertise in tissue culture, human/mouse immune cell culture and functional assays, multi-color flow cytometry, immunoassay development, serum/plasma-based assays.
  • Detail oriented and self-motivated, willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills with experience working in cross-functional settings.
