Position Description:
Torque is seeking an exceptional researcher to work with a cross-functional team to design, engineer, and test this new science. The ideal candidate is a team-oriented cellular biologist with experience in musculoskeletal and/or cardiac physiology, disease mechanisms and models. The ideal candidate has a PhD in a biology-related field with relevant laboratory experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry. They will be able to quickly learn and develop new protocols, possess strong oral and written communication capabilities, demonstrate excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, and be adept at problem solving in a fast-paced environment. 


  • Design, execute and troubleshoot cell-based assays to evaluate novel molecular therapeutics
  • Work with a cross-functional team to identify new targets and to test the activity and specificity of novel molecular therapeutics 
  • Report experimental plans and results to the scientific and leadership teams
  • Maintain an up-to-date and accurate electronic notebook record of performed studies
  • Help develop strategies to ensure effective achievement of broader company scientific objectives
  • Proactively review literature to contribute to new ideas and solve problems
  • Contribute to a positive and exciting work environment

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires PhD in physiology, cellular biology, genetics, molecular biology, or related discipline in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • Experience working in skeletal or cardiac muscle physiology and/or disease
  • Experience performing cellular biology assays including cell culture and transfection, microscopy, FISH, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry
  • Experience in cell biology, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry assay development
  • Broad cellular and molecular biology knowledge with the ability to apply such knowledge to overcome assay challenges
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite software (ppt, excel, word) and GraphPad
  • Ability to independently analyze, graph, and interpret data with effective written and oral communication skills
  • Strong collaborative instinct with good time and resource management skills
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, and excited to take on new challenges!

Additional Helpful Qualifications:

  • Experience culturing and differentiating iPSCs into skeletal muscle and/or cardiomyocytes
  • Experience with genetic models of disease
  • Experience with electronic notebook software
