The opportunity

Sixfold Bioscience is a VC backed team of 20 researchers and operators looking to change how we treat disease.  We see the huge potential of RNA being limited by how safely and effectively it can be systemically delivered in people.

As a researcher in our preclinical team, you’ll be applying your knowledge of molecular biology and biochemistry to optimise, characterise and test our oligonucleotide delivery systems in in vitro and in vivo models. Given the importance of our work, your research will have a huge global impact.

During your time with us, you’ll

Be driving the development of our technology by analysing the effectiveness of our delivery system for RNA therapeutics, including mRNA and RNAi:

  • Planning, conducting and analysing experiments to test the stability (serum/shelf), toxicity and quantification of RNA
  • Develop new methods for physicochemical characterisation of RNA
  • Develop in vitro and in vivo assays to test the efficacy of RNA therapeutics
  • Assist in the downstream processing of animal tissue (e.g. image analysis/histology)
  • Suggest and implement novel ideas for the improvement of Sixfold’s technology
  • Act as a bridge between multidisciplinary teams

You’ll also:

  • Be regularly involved in discussions with the executive team, senior management and the implementation of any actions arising
  • Supervise junior researchers and placement students
  • Work in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Be involved in Sixfolds many grant projects with leading industrial and academic institutions, such as Imperial College, Pharmidex and the Medicines Discovery Catapult.
  • Support and contribute to publishing, patenting and grant writing efforts
  • Engage in discussion and activities to make Sixfold a more engaging, friendly and productive place to work.

Who you are

You’ll need extensive experience in biochemistry and/or molecular biology. We are not looking for the finished article, you can be fresh out of grad school or an industry vet, what we want to see are the raw ingredients that will allow you to hit what we expect, then go beyond that. We look for people who are highly motivated and independent individuals, infinite learners, who are comfortable working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Specifically, you should be someone who:

  • Has a PhD or MSc in RNA/DNA Biochemistry, Biophysics, Nanotechnology, Molecular biology, drug delivery, pharmacology or equivalent scientific discipline.
  • Experience working with RNA therapeutics will be very helpful for this position, but is not required if you are able to demonstrate a wide array of molecular biological/ biochemical competencies

Not required, but helpful

None of the below are required, especially if you are highly experienced in other areas, but any of the following could add a little stardust to your application:

  • Experience in RNA therapeutics, including mRNA, RNAi, ASO, etc.
  • DNA and RNA molecular techniques, including PCR, agarose and acrylamide gel electrophoresis, plasmid processing, purifications, quantification by Nanodrop or Bioanalyzer, in vitro transcription
  • RNAi quantification and degradation assays (stem-loop, PNA, etc.)
  • In vitro transcription of mRNA
  • Automatisation of RNA extraction, serial dilutions, transfections, etc
  • Physicochemical characterisation methods (e.g. DLS, UV-Vis, zeta potential)
