Company Background

Ribogenics is a new, North Carolina based biotech startup focused on the discovery and development of small molecule therapeutics for diseases arising from RNA mis-splicing or perturbations in the RNA splicing machinery. Our technology revolves around a specialized suite of proprietary, ultra high-throughput phenotypic screens in order to identify potential drug candidates that alter splice isoform usage, the levels/localization of RNA binding proteins, or RNA:protein interactions. This platform is based on the work from the laboratory of Dr. Gideon Dreyfuss, who has been a working in the field of RNA processing and RNA binding proteins for over 30 years at the University of Pennsylvania as a Howard Hughes Medical Investigator.

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated research scientist with a background in RNA biology and biochemistry to help lead our screening effort. This individual will be joining a small team in setting up a laboratory to investigate diseases that stem from changes in RNA splicing and RNA binding proteins. Primary work duties include implementing cell-based, phenotypic screens using both luminescent and fluorescent based reporters, in ultra high-throughput mode (up to 1536-well plate) on live patient cells.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in RNA biology, RNA biochemistry, or related fields.
  • Experience with RNA metabolism, with a heavy focus on RNA splicing and the spliceosome.
  • Cellular and molecular biology laboratory experience (ex. mammalian tissue cultures, processing DNA/RNA for next-generation sequencing, immunoassays).
  • Experience with high-throughput experimentation techniques and design.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills (must produce detailed lab records and high-quality, scientific presentations).

Preferred Expertise

  • 1+ years of postdoctoral work (academia or industry).
  • Experience with fluorescent microscopy.
  • Familiarity with viewing/analyzing high-throughput sequencing data.
  • Able to work independently and multitask.
