Posted on January 18,

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Hogg Lab within the Biochemistry and Biophysics Center (BBC) at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to explore the biochemistry and cellular functions of the nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) pathway. We investigate how RNA-protein complexes are built and destroyed at levels spanning from single molecules to whole transcriptomes. This position offers the opportunity for postdoctoral fellows to develop independent research programs with the scientific and career development support of the Hogg laboratory, the BBC, and the resources of the NIH Intramural Research Program. This includes:

-       A fully funded position for up to 5 years
-       Core facilities, including high-throughput sequencing, bioinformatics, biochemistry, biophysics, mass spectrometry, light microscopy, and flow cytometry
-       Career development support from the NHLBI Office of Education and NIH Office of Intramural Training and Education
-       Individualized mentorship in a small and interactive research group
-       A dynamic NIH RNA biology community

Candidates are encouraged to propose innovative and ambitious research projects that take advantage of the Hogg Lab’s expertise in RNA biology and the resources of the NIH Intramural Program. Candidates with experience in bioinformatics, high-throughput sequencing, or RNA biochemistry are particularly encouraged to apply.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Candidates must hold a doctoral degree.
  • Candidates with bioinformatics, high-throughput sequencing, and biochemistry experience are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Appointees may be US citizens, permanent residents, or non-citizens eligible to obtain a valid employment-authorized visa. Stipend is commensurate with education and experience.
