We are seeking a highly motivated and outstanding individual to join our Pulmonary Drug Discovery group as a Postdoctoral Fellow. The selected candidate will work within a fast-paced, interactive, and innovative research team to explore oligonucleotide delivery strategies. The successful candidate will be an innovative thinker with the ability to work independently to conceptualize, implement, and meticulously carry out experiments using tissue culture and animal models.

This position will provide the candidate a unique opportunity to perform innovative translational research in an industry setting and produce original research for publication. The postdoc will gain extensive experience in antisense and drug delivery technology. In addition, the postdoc will be exposed to various pulmonary models in vitro and in vivo. The postdoc will be working in an inter-disciplinary and collaborative environment and receive strong support from both the Pulmonary Drug Discovery team and Medicinal Chemistry team at Ionis.


  • Review literature and outline experimental strategy
  • Design and execute experiments
  • Analyze and interpret results, and present at internal meetings and scientific conferences
  • Write original research manuscripts for scientific publications


  • A Ph.D. degree in the life sciences
  • Strong track record of innovative research demonstrated by publications in top tier journals
  • Experience and ability to develop and characterize cellular and animal models are required
  • Knowledge in receptor biology with experience in development of in vitro and in vivo assays for ligand-receptor interactions are highly desired
  • Essential laboratory skills including molecular cloning, bioproduction, RNA and protein analysis, tissue culture, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, flow cytometry/sorting and animal handling are highly desired
  • The successful candidate must be an independent fast learner with strong organizational, written, and verbal skills, and possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • An ability to be productive and successful in an intense work environment
