Laboratory manager/ research assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated Lab Manager to join the new group of Dr Kinga Kamieniarz-Gdula at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. You will be offered the opportunity to participate in cutting edge research aiming at understanding the role of transcription termination in gene expression regulation as well as support for your professional development. Dr Kamieniarz-Gdula carried out research at the Max Plank Institute in Freiburg and Oxford University for the past 13 years and in her group will implement the research practices established in those world-leading institutes. As the lab manager you will be responsible for the set up and smooth running of the laboratory, will work with a team of researchers and carry out experiments. The position is funded by the NAWA Polish Returns programme, full-time, for four years (initial contract will be signed for one year and then extended by three years).  Salary: 58000 PLN p.a.

Tasks:

-assistance with grant administration: budgeting, communication with university bodies and grant agencies

-managing supplies: making orders, ensuring laboratory is well stocked in advance of planned experiments; if necessary, preparing and maintaining stock solutions and buffers for the laboratory

-help with the set up of the laboratory and equipment purchase

-conducting molecular biology and cell culture experiments to assist lab needs: trouble-shooting, and modification of existing scientific protocols, recording and analyzing experimental data, drawing preliminary conclusions, keeping detailed records of experimental work

-assisting and training other lab members on research techniques and management for their independent projects

-writing and revision of scientific protocols

-ensuring that all laboratory members are compliant with required regulations for health and safety

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in biology or related life science field, laboratory experience. Background in basic molecular biology techniques and tissue culture. Enthusiasm toward new techniques, strong communication skills, ability to make independent decisions. Fluency in English and Polish.
