Orna Therapeutics, Inc. is a Cambridge-based biotechnology startup on a mission to create therapies for diseases inaccessible to existing approaches. Built on novel circular RNA technology developed at MIT, Orna is leading the next wave of RNA therapeutics with our best-in-class expression and delivery platform. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced [Vice President/Sr. Director], Operations to develop and execute our operations strategy and oversee our Facilities and Operations team. This individual will manage our office and lab space at our current Cambridge/ future Watertown location while enhancing and expanding our office, lab and facilities support services. Optimizing our use of space and maximizing day to day operational efficiencies will be a key focus for this operations leader. This individual will collaborate successfully with all key stakeholders, including R&D, People, IT and Finance. This position will have direct reports and requires onsite presence in Cambridge/Watertown. This person will also take the lead role in the buildout of our new headquarters in Watertown and orchestrate a seamless transition in Q4 2022/Q1 2023.


Responsibilities

Facilities and real estate management:

  • Facilities management, including lab and office space planning / utilization, operations and instrumentation, upgrades, security, maintenance, and capital project management
  • Point of contact for property management matters, and as interface with landlord representatives for maintenance and services
  • Collaborate with building management for maximizing effectiveness of utilities and building systems
  • Lead EH&S strategies, programs, policies, systems and training based on industry best practices and applicable laws and regulations
  • Develop and implement business continuity planning for lab and office (including any evolution of COVID19 contingency plans in collaboration with the Covid Task Force)
  • Responsible for developing long-range real estate plans based on company growth and future needs

Procurement:

  • Build strong relationship with key vendors and suppliers
  • Lead and manage procurement, including shipping and receiving
  • Leverage data-driven approaches to pinpoint operational bottlenecks, including but not limited to inventory turnover, supply chain disruptions, system inefficiencies

General Operations:

  • Organization integration - improve alignment between functions, facilitate development of cross functional plans and drive continuous improvement across the organization
  • Coordinate development, implementation, and enforcement of standard operating procedures and policies appropriate for operations performed cross-functionally
  • Manage, train and develop a highly effective, engaged facilities and operations team
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety laws and regulations

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in operations and/or laboratory/facilities management in Biotech and Pharmaceutical industry with prior personnel management experience required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills and experience with ability to successfully collaborate with all team members, at all levels of the organization in a high-paced environment
  • Strong ability to influence key stakeholders, drive change and achieve support for new initiatives
  • Experience managing external vendors and service providers for all operations projects and programs
  • Exceptional business acumen with ability to navigate in a rapidly growing organization
  • Prior experience with an animal test facility, i.e., vivarium
  • Superior organizational skills with keen attention to detail
  • Knowledge of pertinent health and safety laws and regulations
  • Excellent ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize and meet required deadlines
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.
