We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Director or Director of Lead Discovery to join our team. The Associate Director or Director, Lead Discovery will report to the VP of Lead Discovery and will be accountable for leading programs and research activities to identify and progress RNA-targeted therapeutics. Success in this position will require an individual who has experience leading a group in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with a drive to continually improve and execute within projected timelines, and who can collaborate effectively cross-functionally. Actual title will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Driving cutting edge science and leading drug discovery efforts.
  • Applying experience and innovation to all aspects of the drug discovery process.
  • Effectively managing personnel, internal and external resources, and timelines to progress programs.
  • Generating and communicating key insights that drive programs, and the science, forward.
  • Actively engaging in identifying targets and guiding biological strategy.
  • Working collaboratively at the interface of RNA biology and chemistry to add value to all research areas of the company.

  • PhD in biology, biochemistry, or a related field with substantial knowledge of the drug discovery process.
  • 10+ years of drug discovery experience in an industry setting with small company/biotech experience preferred.
  • Proven track record of driving programs to milestones with delivery of clinical candidate(s) preferred.
  • Expertise in all aspects of drug discovery from hit identification through lead optimization.
  • Experience managing CROs to minimize delivery times and maximize productivity.
  • Experience in assay development, compound profiling, or cellular pathway/biomarker assessment is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of a therapeutic area and experience with biological enablement studies are preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, proactive communication skills, and strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills are required.
  • A work ethic, sense of urgency, ability to adapt, and enthusiastic approach that will foster success in a fast-paced, cutting edge research environment.
