The Miao lab (www.rnacentre.org) at Guangzhou National Laboratory seeks:

A postdoctoral researcher for computational analysis of single-cell omics data of the human lung.
A postdoctoral researcher for the development of single-cell omics algorithm for brain spatial data.
A postdoctoral researcher for RNA X-ray crystallography of infectious RNA viruses.
An associate investigator (co-PI) position for the single-cell atlas project.
The employment is full-time for two years with access on Dec 1st, 2022 or by agreement. Last day to apply is Nov 14th 2022.

Project description and working tasks
These postdoctoral positions are funded by three different funding resources (NSCF and MOST) with different research aims. Details of the research plans need to be discussed with the PI. These projects are derived from our previous publications at Nature Methods (2019, 2020), Nature protocols (2021), Nature Neuroscience (2022), details of which are available at (www.rnacentre.org). Miao lab offers access to an excellent computational research infrastructure. You will work with thriving small teams in a large interdisciplinary environment with excellent infrastructure.

About the employer
Principal Investigator ([email protected]) of the lab, Zhichao Miao, was selected in the National High-Level Young Talents Program, and supported by the Key Research and Development Program of the Ministry Of Science and Technology (MOST) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). After his PhD at the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, he worked at the CNRS France, the University of Strasbourg, and the Sanger Institute in the UK with world-famous scientists. And later he became a senior bioinformatician at the European Bioinformatics Institute. He has participated in the Human Cell Atlas Project and chaired the RNA-Puzzles project, which is a world-wide evaluation of RNA 3D structure prediction, in the past 10 years. The lab has published more than 40 high-level papers with more than 4500 citations, including more than 20 first/corresponding author papers, e.g, Nature Methods (x2), Nature Neurosciences, Nature Protocols, Nucleic Acids Research (x4), Genome Biology, etc. The laboratory focuses on: Computational biology, RNA structural biology and single-cell omics with various applications to immunology, neuroscience, mRNA vaccine design, etc. The laboratory website: www.rnacentre.org.


  • PhD/Doctor or equivalent degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, structural biology, computer science, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics, immunology, neuroscience, or other related subjects
  • Previous experience in single-cell omics, algorithm development, RNA structure
  • Team spirit, capability of independent self-motivated work
  • Good English and communication skills are a prerequisite
  • Excellent programming skills (e.g., Python, R, C++) and experience in data analysis are required
